Very Rare New England Shoe Foot Candle Stand / Child's High Chair Hutch with hand dovetailed candle drawer

Very Rare New England Shoe Foot Candle Stand / Child's High Chair Hutch

Early 18th Century. The original was also in red paint. Sides are slightly splayed. Top is 25" in diameter. The candle drawer is splayed on the left side in order to conform to the splay of the base. Note aging inside the drawer. Detail, Detail, Detail. Magnifying glass useful here. Separation of top boards caused by "years" of shrinkage; evidence of age. Please note shoe marks on front of stand where the children have kicked and kicked with their feet over the years. A very interesting and unusual piece. A client saw this piece advertised in Maine Antique Digest, September 1996 issue, Page 43B, and asked me to make her one, which I, of course, did. The entire stand was probably painted red at one time (except the shoe feet). Note remnants of old red paint around the edge of the top. More detail. The top is lightly scrubbed, 28 1/2" H x 25 1/2 W (top) x 25 1/2" D. Definitely one of a kind. This stand could have various uses, lamp table, end table, plant stand, maybe a night stand with a storage drawer next to your bed, or use your imagination.

This shows the candle stand converted into a High Chair. Of course, the obvious problem with this Early High Chair is that there is no way to hold the child securely in the seat. Also there is no area where a serving plate could rest. I believe this High Chair was meant for an older child whose mom still fed him or her.
