Pennsylvania Hanging Corner Cupboard

Pennsylvania Hanging Corner Cupboard

An exact copy of an 18th Century Pennsylvania hanging corner cupboard. Unusual picture frame molding sets off the front of the cupboard. The interior has four shelves each with a plate groove. "Old" candle burn marks show on shelf edges, just as they do on the original. The lock is missing on the reproduction, but you can see the discoloring of the wood, the key hole and the screw holes where the lock once was. The cupboard was found in an 18th Century stone farmhouse near Carlisle, PA. I am very fortunate in that I own the original cupboard, 51" H x 15 1/2" D, 22" Corner - an example of the 18th Century American Country furniture at its best. Everyone who sees the PA. cupboard in person loves it; I do too. Another feature of this reproduction Country Corner Cupboard is the use of reproduction rose head nails, which are used to keep the back boards in place. The original cupboard was constructed in the same manner. I have the rose head nails handmade by an excellent blacksmith - thanks Tom.

Shows an image of the Cupboard with the door open. The hand chamfered door panels are shown as is the well aged interior. If you look closely, you can see the plate grooves, and a candle burn on one of the shelf edges. Please notice too that the door is made with the mortise and tenon joints pinned.
