Little Candle Shelf - C. 1840 - 1850?

I found this charming Candle Shelf while on an antique-buying trip back East some twenty years ago. The backboard of the shelf is cut a little crooked. The shelf itself is nailed to the back with several square nails. The little square shelf support is held in place with old square nails also. The antique dealer in central Pennsylvania said that the Candle Shelf came out of an early log cabin there in Pennsylvania. It's been twenty plus years since I found it. I still have it, I just love the charm and simplicity of the Little Shelf. Its uses are somewhat limited I suppose. How about as a pair, one on either side of an Early American painting, an original or a good reproduction, maybe. Again as a pair, one each on either side of a mantel that is over a great old fireplace/hearth or perhaps on either side of a country-style mirror or maybe just one Little Shelf as an accent piece in your Home.

        The Candle Shelf is 9 1/4" H x 4 3/4" W x 5" D. (Can be made a little larger without sacrificing proportion.)

Prices: $105.00 in natural aged pine
$125.00 in worn and aged Grungy™ milk paint
