Hanging Utility Box - Late 18th or early 19th Century

The origin of the Utility Box is not known - most people who have offered opinions have guessed Pennsylvania based on ???. This Utility Box has a domed lid as did the original. The two graduated (1) drawers are of hand-cut dovetail construction with both drawers having chamfered bottoms as did the originals. The interiors of the drawers, as well as the case, are aged out to simulate the passage of time. The "front" board of the case is hand-dovetailed to each side of the case. The back of the box retains its signs of age as do the backs of all of our Smalls. The box shown is hand-painted in my Grungy? blue milk paint.

The Utility Box could be hung in the kitchen and used as a little storage box for pens, pencils, a note pad, etc. etc., or placed by the fireplace to hold various items, in the bedroom on your dresser to hold spare change, cuff links or other small items that you never seem to have a place for; it's a "handy" piece to have and an interesting box to display.

        The Utility Box is 18" H x 10" W x 6" D.

Prices:  $350.00 in natural aged pine
$435.00 in hand worn and aged Grungy™ milk paint

This photo shows the Utility Box with both drawers pulled out, and also the aging inside both drawers.

This photo shows a close-up photo of the two-drawer fronts. The close-up image shows in detail my Grungy™ worn/aged blue milk paint surface, the hand-done beading around the drawer fronts (2), and the warm color of the 200 +/- year-old white pine wood.

        (1) - graduated drawers are drawers of different depths

        (2) - the beading was done by hand using a copy of an old scratch beader that I made
