Candle Box - 18th Century - Pennsylvania in Origin

Hand dovetailed case; built as the original, lid "hinges" are actually part of the lid itself. The chamfered bottom board is attached using original square nails. This is a very well designed country Candle Box with Great Grungy™ blue milk paint that has been well aged. The interior of the Candle Box has been aged as well much as the original box was. The Candle Box, with its pleasing lines, could be hung on the wall, of course, put at the end of a mantel, on top of a desk, or on a small table perhaps. Of course, it could hold candles, seasonal flower arrangements, note pad and pencil in the kitchen, or --- ? Just by itself, it would add yet more country charm to your country decor. One other use that comes to mind as I write, is a daily "mail box". The day's mail would be put in the box each day, out of the way, and each family member would know to look in the Candle Box each day for his or her mail. The box is 11" H x 15" W x 8 1/8" D.

Prices:  $245.00 in natural aged pine
$295.00 in worn and aged Grungy™ milk paint

This photo shows an interior view of the Candle Box and its aged finish. The exterior of the box shown in this photo is not in a natural pine finish, instead it's actually done in a "pumpkin pine" milk paint; a wonderful old aged color.

This photo shows a view of the back of one of my Candle Boxes. The original patina shows on the surface of the backboard. The early large hand-cut dovetails are also easily seen. The scribe lines, which are used to delineate the outline and placement of the individual dovetails, may also be seen if you look closely enough. A scribe is a small tool with a small round "handle" (knob) and a nail-like object fitted into the knob. The scribe was used to scratch lines in the wood because the scribe was more accurate than drawing lines with a pencil and the use of the scribe saved on pencils.
