ABOUT OUR AMERICAN COUNTRY
FURNITURE
PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE BEST
---WILL RECOGNIZE THE BEST
Our
Furniture, Smalls and Windsors, are made by reproducing antique
American Country pieces made by hand prior to 1850. 1850 is generally
accepted as the beginning of the American Industrial Revolution
and the beginning of factory manufactured furniture.
With
the advent of factory produced furniture, much of the pride taken
in making furniture was lost along with much of the charm of
the EARLY pieces.
Fireside
Reproductions has, for the past thirty years, taken pride in
what we make. We feel that we make some of the most accurately
reproduced American Country Furniture available today.
Along
with being very authentic and functional, we try to bring to
each piece of our Furniture, Smalls and Windsors as well, the
warmth and charm of the originals; of course, nothing will replace
an original piece and all its qualities, but we think we come
close.
In
order to build our various pieces as authentically as possible,
we, at Fireside Reproductions, use the same materials as used
by the furniture makers 200+/- years ago.
We
use 150 - 200+ year-old white pine taken from old buildings in
New England down through, of course, Pennsylvania. These boards
were grainery boards, attic floor boards, partition walls and
quality boards of other uses (not barn siding).
The
nails we use are also salvaged from the old structures; the nice
old square nails that add to the charm and authenticity of our
FURNITURE and our SMALLS as well.
Our
finishes (surfaces) are: natural old pine (our standard finish),
smooth aged and worn milk paint, Grungy? worn and aged milk paint,
one color over another color paint with proper wear, a natural
scrubbed surface (for table tops etc.), and finally a scrubbed
milk paint surface; a scrubbed old red over an old mustard first
coat. ALL OF OUR PIECES ARE AVAILABLE WITHOUT WEAR. *
Thank
you for your time. Now, we would like to invite you to enjoy
viewing our GALLERY, which proudly displays our present line
of reproduction, Antique American Country Furniture. *

Authenticity
also calls for making pieces in the same manner as the originals.
Where called for by the original piece, we hand cut our Dovetails
for drawers, cases, i.e. Dower chest cases and in other applications
again where called for. We use real mortise and tenon joints,
for instance, in making a door frame. I say a real mortise and
tenon joint because these are ways "to pull off" a
fake M & T joint thereby saving time; we don't use the short
cuts.
Where
nailed construction is required, we use original old square nails
if the nail will be seen. If the nail will not show, for example,
when applying the backboards on a cupboard, we use rusted reproduction
square nails that have to be properly aged. We do this, of course,
to conserve the original square nails.
I
think the above gives you a good idea as to the pride we take
in making each of our pieces one at a time; you cannot use a
mass production/assembly line method(s) to make the well-built,
authentic and quality pieces we make. Of course, the "by
hand work" we do is impossible to accomplish on a mass basis.
We,
at Fireside Reproductions, view each piece we make as a challenge;
we take great pride in meeting that challenge with each and every
piece we make.

- OUR FURNITURE IS SHOWN WITH WEAR AND AGED MILK PAINT; ALL OF
OUR PIECES ARE AVAILABLE WITHOUT WEAR AND AGING WITH A PRICE
CONSIDERATION, OF COURSE.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ.
I AM NOT VERY FAMILIAR WITH
HI-TECH, BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THOSE WHO KNOW THAT SHADES AND
INTENSITY OF COLOR CAN VARY FROM COMPUTER TO COMPUTER DUE TO
THE FACT THAT SOME COMPUTERS ARE NOT CALIBRATED AS TO COLOR ON
A REGULAR BASIS; EVERY MONTH OR SO, I'M TOLD.
WHEN MY IMAGES WERE PUT ON
MY WEBSITE THEY WERE OF TRUE COLOR AND SHADE OF COLOR FOR EACH
IMAGE.
Thank you
